Dr. Mary Rose Goldstein, lead audiologist at Center for Neurosciences, was recently invited to speak at the American Academy of Audiology 2024 conference in Atlanta, GA, alongside Dr. Terry Zwolan. They discussed the application of aided speech testing, akin to the Minimum Speech Test Battery Version 3 (MSTB-3), for validating hearing aid fittings.
Dr. Goldstein provided valuable insights into optimizing hearing aid fittings to enhance speech understanding in individuals with hearing loss. This contribution can lead to improved outcomes and better quality of life for those who rely on hearing aids for communication. This approach may also lead to earlier identification of patients who may qualify for cochlear implants.
Cochlear implants are a vastly underutilized tool for aural rehabilitation, as currently only 2% of patients that could benefit from a cochlear implant are using the technology.
