Typically, associated with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/neurotucson.com\/ear-hearing\/otology\/conductive-hearing-loss\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"311\">conductive hearing loss<\/a>, untreated CSOM can result in serious complications such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/neurotucson.com\/ear-hearing\/otology\/mastoiditis\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"378\">mastoiditis<\/a>, facial nerve paralysis,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/neurotucson.com\/ear-hearing\/otology\/cholesteatoma\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"309\">cholesteatoma<\/a>\u00a0formation, dizziness, and intracranial infections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When medical management (antibiotics &amp; ear cleanings) fails, surgery is indicated to patch the perforated eardrum, remove infected bone\/soft tissues, and treat complications such as cholesteatoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main goal of treatment is to create a dry ear that is free of infection.
